April is Volunteer Month!
April is National Volunteer month and we’d like to share a little about two organizations that are close to our heart: the Saint Louis Foodbank and Beyond Housing.
Beyond Housing
Beyond Housing is a non-profit organization that invests in the under-resourced 24:1 community in North St. Louis.
“Our goal is to build a more equitable and prosperous St. Louis, and build a fabric based on the needs of a community,” said Chris Krehmeyer, President/CEO of Beyond Housing. “We’re investing in this community – over 15 years we’ve put in over $200 million dollars towards homes, schools, and education – we just had our first Law School graduate!”
The 24:1 community is a collection of municipalities next door to Reed Rubber Products, which manufactures its seals in North St. Louis. As an opportunity to invest in our own community, here was an obvious choice made even easier by the successful program that Beyond Housing already runs in these neighborhoods.
“When the Reed team came out, they did work on houses with tools and skills and did a fantastic job on the turnover houses. We are so appreciative of the generosity and time – and skills the Reed team is able to contribute,” Krehmeyer said.
St. Louis Foodbank
The other volunteer opportunity Reed Rubber revisits is with the local St. Louis Foodbank. The Foodbank promotes the health and well-being of all people in the bi-state region by providing the food and resources they need to thrive. Working to ensure that each person who uses the organization is met with empathy, and support.
Mary Cooper, STL Foodbank volunteer coordinator, said that it would be impossible for their organization to run without the support of local volunteers.
“I’ve been at the Foodbank for over 15 years, and I am still amazed at the loyalty and compassion of our volunteers. We are deeply grateful for Reed Rubber’s commitment to giving back and for being such a positive example of corporate citizenship. The partnership and generosity truly help move our mission forward,” Cooper shared.
Our mission at Reed is to help our customers, our employees, and our community succeed. We do so by continuing to explore opportunities to engage and volunteer with our neighbors and help our beloved STL continue to flourish.
